A good start...

1) Term limits for Congress. 2 terms and out. The elections should also be staggered so half of Congress are up for re-election each cycle.

2) Earmark ban. Period.

3) Constitutional Amendment requiring a balanced budget with an exception for times of war where it can be suspended. However, a budgetary deficit must be re-approved each year even during wartime and in both cases there must be a 2/3rd majority to approve a budgetary deficit.

4) Phased increase in Social Security retirement age, then tied to longevity scales there after.

5) Food stamp system replaced with Government supplied, nutritionally balanced, subsistance foods.

6) Repeal affirmative action. Either everyone is equal or no one is equal. Government mandated discrimination helps no one.

7) English as the language of Government. Diversity is one of America's great strengths but it needs to be tempered with American culture. Multiculturalism is divisive and a return to the days of segregation. Separate but equal does not work. Our own civil rights movement should have taught us that. United we stand, divided we fall.

You get what you pay for...

Quality.

You really do get what you pay for in life. No matter what you're talking about it comes down to quality. People, places or things. Quality matters.

I've been thinking about this a bit lately. I've been eating healthy and exercising for a year now. I've gone from quick, cheap food to demanding only high quality food. I eat much less now in terms of quantity so I demand every bite be the best bite I can get. I don't waste my calories on junk food or cheap fast food. I'll drive 40 miles to a bakery if I'm going to splurge on a cupcake. I want to savor every morsel so settling for some grocery store confection just isn't worth it.

The same goes for my clothes. I don't buy a lot of clothes but it has been proven time and again that quality matters. I just buy the brands that will last now. Why buy clothes that are inexpensive to simply have to replace them over and over when they wear out. I spend time and effort to take care of my car and it hasn't given me a single problem. I plan on having it for years to come. I put in the effort to make it so.

Friends! Two of my best friends are tried and true and have been with me for years. They're the guys that you can not talk to for years and pick right back up where you left off. The type of friends that are there if you need them no matter what. Then there is my best friend in the whole world, my wonderful wife. I am amazed that I'm married to not only the love of my life but my soulmate as well. She is my best friend and I enjoy just hanging out with her. We don't have to agree on everything but we can talk about anything... ok, maybe not politics, she just isn't interested. Even there though, she tries for my sake! ;-)

You get what you pay for in life. Be it paid for with time, money, compassion, understanding, etc... Whatever you put into something, you get back out in return. You put in the effort and it will pay off. If you don't, don't be surprised with dismal results.

S.A.D.

Seasonal affective disorder.

I seriously think I suffer from this.

Symptoms usually build up gradually in the late autumn and winter months.

1) Afternoon slumps with decreased energy and concentration (check)
2) Increased appetite with weight gain (weight loss is more typical of other forms of depression) (check)
3) Increased sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness (problems sleeping are more typical of other forms of depression) (check)
4) Lack of energy and loss of interest in work or other activities (check)
5) Slow, sluggish, lethargic movement (Yay, I don't have this one!)
6) Social withdrawal (check)
7) Unhappiness and irritability (check)

I'm never a happy camper while in Southern Illinois; however, I'm down right hostile about everything as the winter weather seems to DRAG ON FOREVER. =/

Gay Marriage

How is this still a problem? Seriously.

Proponents claim they want equality with mixed sex marriages. Opponents claim that marriage is a religious union and therefore only sanctioned for mixed sexes in the eyes of God. How does any of this relate to Government?

The role of Government in "marriage" is to enforce contract law between the individuals entering into the union. The simple solution for both sides of this argument? Change the name from Marriage to Civil Union in all Government roles. The Government would thus oversee the legal aspects of ALL unions between individuals no matter sex. The Government would have no role in Marriages; which would be left to Churches and Religious Organizations. Marriages would have nothing to do with legal, contractual status in relation to Government regulation. This way everyone is equal in the eyes of the law and any Churches or Religions that are opposed to same sex marriages don't have to participate in them or condone them.

Any other "impossible to solve" problems out there that need a dose of common sense?
